Celebrating in Chemnitz
Whether castle hall, cultural centre or living room in an old building: first I ask about your room, because it decides how much equipment I bring and where it can stand. For your birthday I present five venues: a cultural centre in Kaßberg, two castle hotels, a hotel by the opera house and an Art Nouveau villa.
Where you celebrate in Chemnitz is up to you: in the cultural centre in Kaßberg, in the castle hotel on the edge of town or in the hotel on Theaterplatz. The smaller your group, the leaner my setup, and if the whole family comes it grows accordingly. As a first step, please tell me your address.
If the party is at your home in the living room, I only need a free corner for the booth. We agree on space and start time beforehand so that on the night you can simply be the host.
Besides the hall, the cultural centre in Kaßberg also rents out a party cellar, which the website describes for company and private celebrations such as family parties. For a group in the cellar a compact setup is usually enough for me; tell me the number of guests and I will adjust to it.
The hotel explicitly lists private events among its occasions, alongside school enrolment celebrations, Jugendweihe and confirmations. Which room could work for your group is something you clarify with the venue; after that we plan power and positioning together.
The castle hotel speaks of family celebrations and presents a vaulted restaurant, wine bar as well as the Bar und Salon von Taube. A vault makes music sound different from a hall, so we discuss how loud and where it should play.
The hotel next to the opera house offers event rooms and the OPERA Restaurant & Lounge. The website does not explicitly mention birthdays, so ask the venue first. If the party is possible, we plan the setup and schedule together.
The Art Nouveau villa by Henry van de Velde mentions weddings on a smaller scale, but not birthdays explicitly. Whether your party is possible there is something only the venue can tell you; if it works, a small system is enough for a manageable group.

Who I am
If you are hosting in Chemnitz, I take care of the music. I know parties of every size, from a small group to a celebration with the whole family, and today over 1450 events stand behind me. A successful evening does not follow an off-the-peg plan, so I listen to you first.
Your birthday should sound like you and not like a collection of chart hits. My edits combine classics and current hits so that older and younger guests dance together. You tell me beforehand which songs you love and which are off limits, and I take care of the rest.
How it works
Send me the date and place, and I reply the same or the next day. Then come the video call, setup and party.

After booking I send you my mobile number, because WhatsApp is the quickest way to reach each other. About a week before the party we go through requests, no-gos and the schedule.
Before the first guests arrive I set up, which takes around 40 minutes, plus the soundcheck. I clarify open questions with you or the venue so that things stay calm in the background.
Subtle lounge music plays as guests arrive and gets conversations started. For the birthday guest or a special moment I choose a piece that fits exactly.
I structure the evening musically: calm tracks for dinner, the microphone for speeches and announcements, and fitting pieces for games, surprises and the cutting of the cake.
Once the dance floor is open, I take over completely. I read the mood, shape the set around your guests and get young and old moving until the last song fades out.

For your birthday I develop a set that plays only at your party, and I keep shaping it as the evening goes on. Tracks from several decades get even onlookers onto the dance floor. A balcony, a garden or a living room is all I need, and I carry my compact setup in myself. If a speech is given or a slideshow is shown, I turn the music down right away.

By the time your guests arrive, the equipment is set up and sound-checked; after the party I pack everything up on my own. About 2.5 m of width and 1.5 m of depth are enough, and under normal conditions (car close to the setup spot, no stairs or lifts) setting up takes around 40 minutes.
You alone decide which extras to add, whether lighting, photo station, live music or audio guest book; I take care of the arrangements.

Yes, tell me the years of your youth and the opening builds on them. Over time I move away from that as soon as I see who is dancing. I pick up requests from your group spontaneously.
Yes, high rooms with stucco are no obstacle for me, and I carry the equipment up the stairs myself. In a room in an old building a small setup is often enough; how big it turns out I will tell you once I know the dimensions of your room. A quick word to the neighbours beforehand keeps the evening free of trouble.
For a milestone birthday plan two to three months of lead time, then you have a good chance of getting your preferred date. For a small group shorter notice is often enough as well. I will write back to you within 24 hours to say whether anything is still free on your day.
Yes, I connect a laptop or stick to my system, and the sound comes through it. It is best to send me the film beforehand, and I will check it at the soundcheck. While it plays I take my music right back so your guests understand every word.

Transparency
A whole evening of nothing but Schlager and Ballermann, hour after hour? A few big crowd-pleasers in between, when the mood calls for it, belong to a good birthday party for me. Building a whole evening on them alone isn't my thing, though. I'm just as little the right person for non-stop techno sets without any contact with the crowd, for rigid request lists that get worked through from top to bottom, or for festival formats with several stages. There are other DJs who can do exactly that and love it, nothing against them, it's simply not my speciality.
My craft is mixing live for guests who want an evening with a feel for the moment: clean transitions, the right track at the right time, instead of just pressing play. That's why I'd rather tell you beforehand what I don't do than have you disappointed on the night.
