About me

I am Michael Zimmermann, most people know me as DJ Micha. I have been behind the decks since 1998, and since 2004 mainly at weddings, corporate events and galas. Here I tell you who is behind the music and how I work.

Who I am

Hi, that is me, Micha.

You may still be able to tell: I am a northerner, but I have been at home in Bavaria for over two decades. I live in Aichach, and from there I travel to Munich, Augsburg, Ingolstadt and all over Bavaria.

I stood behind the decks in clubs for the first time in 1998. At some point I outgrew them, and so did the people I had played for night after night. They reached marrying age, and I was allowed to musically catch exactly those people again on their most beautiful day. Since 2004 I have been working almost exclusively at private and corporate celebrations: over 650 weddings, more than 1450 events in total.

Above all, my rule is: honest advice, personal planning. You do not get a standard package, but a DJ who takes the time for your celebration.

The name

Where does “beats per micha” come from?

The name is a small play on words: in music, BPM stands for “beats per minute”, the tempo of a track. That became my DJ alias: beats per micha.

My path

From the accordion to the DJ booth

  1. Childhood

    Accordion, because Grandma liked it

As a child I had accordion lessons, at school and privately. The reason was simple: my grandmother thought the instrument was beautiful. Honestly, I never really warmed to it myself. And yet that is exactly where something happened that has stayed with me to this day: I developed a feeling for rhythm and harmony.

  2. Late 90s

    Pizza and two Pioneer players

My friend was already DJing at a club back then and had two Pioneer CDJ-100s at home. Before we went to the discotheque in the evening, me still as a guest, I often sat at his living-room table and played around with the players. In between we ordered a pizza. I had no idea that this was exactly where the spark jumped.

  3. 1998

The first night behind the decks

Shortly after, the manager of a discotheque in my hometown asked me whether I wanted to start there as a DJ. I had no clue and was completely new to it. But I dug in quickly. From the start it mattered to me: it has to be in the mix, and the harmony has to be right. That standard has never let go of me. Year after year, my mixing and track selection got better.

  4. 2004

Move to Munich, entering the event business

Then I moved to Munich. After a short break I entered the event business in 2004: weddings, company parties, birthdays, trade fairs and promotion. The people I used to play for in clubs at night became couples, and I was allowed to provide the music again on their most beautiful day.

  5. 650+

    Weddings and events

I have accompanied over 650 couples on their most beautiful day, and more than 1450 celebrations in total in Munich, Augsburg, Ingolstadt and all over Bavaria.

  6. Today

    Live mixing, own edits, workshops

Today I mix live and build my own edits, meaning transitions that are on no record. What I have learned along the way, I occasionally pass on in workshops for the DJ Allianz e.V.

How I work

The music speaks, the dance floor decides.

Surprise DJ changes, playlist autopilot, volume chaos? Not with me. Whatever party you celebrate: what matters is a DJ who knows what they are doing and guests who know how to celebrate.

Mixed live

I stay in the background and let the music speak. Sixties soul next to current house, disco next to Britpop, Otis Redding next to Dua Lipa: it sounds wilder than it is, because good mixing knows no genre, only the right moment.

Own edits

Own edits make it possible, creating transitions that are on no record. That is how the genres sound as one.

Personally planned

Your evening is discussed with you and planned personally, not picked from a catalogue. Honest and without a standard solution.

Equipment

Equipment I can rely on

At the booth I work with Pioneer and Denon equipment, plus brands such as Sennheiser, Electro-Voice and RCF. The sound system covers celebrations of up to 150 guests.

Passing it on

I pass on my craft

For the DJ Allianz e.V. I occasionally hold workshops on own edits and transitions, for example in Salzburg and Nuremberg.
