Company parties in Kiel
Hotel ballroom, hall or concert hall by the water: in a port city the venues differ greatly, so I first ask about the programme and the room. Six venues, from the hotel by the main station and the hall on the Kiellinie to the arena at Europaplatz, show the range for your company evening: a gala in a large hall, a conference with an evening programme or a smaller party.
The choice in Kiel ranges from the hotel by the main station, whose rooms hold up to 400 people, to the Ostseehalle, which has 13,500 seats for concerts. I adapt my equipment to the hall, and for that I should know beforehand what occasion, what programme and how many participants you are planning.
In the concert hall of the palace I deliberately hold the sound back, in the beach hotel in Heikendorf I adapt the music to the guests by the water. How meals, speeches and dancing alternate we record in the briefing in writing; my setup takes about 40 minutes.
The hotel lists 8 air-conditioned event rooms for up to 400 people, the restaurant PIER 16 and the Roof Lounge Bar DECK 8, which according to the operator can be booked exclusively. With several rooms I clarify in advance where the programme and the dance floor will be.
The operator lists the Kaisersaal with 200 square metres for up to 150 people, the Kommodoresaal for up to 60 and the Schifferstube for up to 12 as rooms for conferences. How much music makes sense between the talk and dinner is something we set in the briefing.
The venue names Christmas parties and anniversaries as occasions. According to the operator, the event area has 350 square metres across six rooms, and the traditional Waldesruh house next door offers two rooms plus a foyer of 270 square metres. With several rooms I plan the sound and the walking routes with you early on.
According to the operator, the hotel on the Baltic beach hosts company parties and conferences and names anniversaries and a boss's farewell as occasions. How long the evening runs and when the speeches happen we discuss in advance, and then I set up my equipment accordingly.
Since its privatisation in 2003 the castle has been a cultural centre with around 300 events a year, and it has a concert hall in the annex of the east wing. Whether and how a company evening can be planned there is something you learn from the operator. In concert halls I agree the volume level in advance.
The hall holds 13,500 seats for concerts and is the home venue of THW Kiel. Wikipedia lists concerts, stand-up comedy, show-jumping tournaments and darts as events. Please ask the venue whether company parties are possible there; at this size I plan early, and we discuss the necessary equipment together.

Who I am
The running order of your evening in Kiel sets the direction for my music planning: first arriving, then the welcome and speeches, and finally the dance floor. I came to the decks in a nightclub, and private and corporate celebrations followed later. We clarify which items are on the programme and when the party starts in advance, by phone or video call.
I do not push myself into the foreground; my edits join the individual parts of your event into one whole. On the day of the event I bring the equipment and microphones, set everything up and check the sound in the still empty room.

Which track works for which generation I hear in the room and adjust the mix continuously instead of working through a list. I have been mastering the balancing act between company culture and party mood for many years, including for corporations such as BMW or Microsoft. For the transition from dinner to party I keep time free so that a long speech does not slow your evening down. Up to 150 guests I provide the complete equipment myself, and for larger events I bring in reliable technical partners.

Your music wish list is the start, then I clarify details myself with the venue and service providers, so that you do not have to chase after them. Tracks and themes that do not suit your occasion I note in the conversation and consistently keep out of the programme.

From the soul of the seventies to today's charts, we agree your music programme beforehand, and I combine the genres into one whole.
My setup takes around 40 minutes and needs a space of 2.5 x 1.5 metres; after the last track I pack everything up myself. About 2.5 m of width and 1.5 m of depth are enough, and under normal conditions (car close to the setup spot, no stairs or lifts) setup takes around 40 minutes.

Whether I use the house system is decided by a look at the data and photos you send me beforehand. If it convinces me, I connect my controller to it; otherwise I set up my own system.
My own system carries your event up to about 150 people; a space of 2.5 x 1.5 metres at the desk is enough for me. If you tell me about changes to the number, I adjust the sound, and for larger events I bring in technology partners.
You decide with me beforehand which tribute comes when, and I fade the music out in good time and back in afterwards. After the programme I gently lead the guests back into the party.
A summer party in Kiel can be prepared well in four to eight weeks; if it is large-scale or falls in the peak weeks of the season, let me know earlier. I will get back to you within a day.

If you want live music already at the reception or dinner, I'll arrange a well-rehearsed band of two to four musicians for you. After that I keep playing without a break, and because the planning is in my hands, I remain your single point of contact.

This is how we work together on your corporate event in Kiel: you describe the occasion, the date and the number of participants, and in a video call we clarify music, program and venue. Shortly before the date, I go through the schedule with you in the briefing. On the day of the event I am on site before doors open and listen to the empty room. My own sound system covers a guest count of up to about 150, and beyond that I bring in technical partners, whom I agree on with you early.

Transparency
A programme made up exclusively of party-anthem and Schlager hits doesn't suit me. Guests at any company party like a few sing-along classics, but building the whole evening on them isn't my style. I'm also the wrong contact for techno sets with no connection to your guests, for wish lists that run rigidly from top to bottom, or for multi-stage festivals. Colleagues who love exactly that take such jobs.
My craft is live mixing for guests who want an evening with a feel for the moment: clean transitions, the right track at the right time, instead of just pressing play. That's why I'd rather tell you beforehand what I don't do than have you disappointed on the night.
