Celebrations in Herne
A corner pub in Wanne, a garden shed in Sodingen or a hall in the park: every room carries music differently, so I first ask where you are celebrating. A hall in the Revierpark, a factory hall, a people's theatre, a leisure park or the grounds of a castle: your birthday in Herne can take place here, and each address says what I look at for the sound setup.
A party in a club house in Eickel makes different demands than a hall in the Revierpark, and that determines how much equipment I bring. So tell me first where you are celebrating and how many guests are coming.
For a small group my compact set is enough, which I carry in myself; you only need a power outlet within reach. After 40 minutes everything is wired and tested, so you can calmly wait for your first guests.
The venue explicitly lists birthdays as an occasion. The Sodingen room holds up to 30 people, the Pfiffikus-Haus 70 guests and the divisible Großer Saal 50 to 300 participants. You choose the room with the venue, and then I plan the booth and speakers to suit the size.
After the plant closed in 1983, the site opened as a cultural centre in October 1986. Whether rooms are rented out for private birthdays is for the City of Herne to say. If so, we will work out how much equipment a former factory building needs.
The Volkstheater in the former Saalbau at the Stadtgarten has 500 seats and shows regional plays with a permanent ensemble. Whether the venue accepts parties or groups and which rooms are meant for them, you can find out on request.
The park opened in 1970 as the first Revierpark in the Ruhr region, covers 31 hectares and offers the Lago leisure pool, an ice rink and the Jolante children's railway. Whether and how a birthday can be celebrated there is something you settle with the operators; afterwards I plan weather protection and power.
The moated castle, with a tower from around 1500 and a gate from 1664, stands in a castle park redesigned in 2008, and the Emschertal-Museum has been housed there since 1938. Whether parties are possible there is for the City of Herne to answer; for a party in the park, my first thought would be a weather plan.

Who I am
In Herne people like to celebrate in a mixed crowd: neighbours, colleagues, the club and the family sit at one table. It is exactly for this mix that I build my sets. I learned the craft in the discotheque, and private and corporate celebrations followed, over 1450 events in total.
Rigid lists help little; a party lives from someone watching the room and choosing the right next track. You send me your wishes and no-gos beforehand, and on the night you can celebrate along yourself. If you like, I will explain in advance how such an evening unfolds in phases.

You get in touch with the date and location, and I reply within a day. A short video call follows, then the planning up to the set-up before your party.

With the booking you get my mobile number, because a lot gets sorted fastest on WhatsApp. About a week before the party we talk about favourite songs, no-gos and the schedule.
I am in the room before the first guests: set-up in about 40 minutes, then the sound check. Whatever the venue still needs to know, I sort out with you or the management, so nobody has to search on the night.
Calm lounge music plays as guests arrive, so that they start talking. For you as the birthday guest of honour I choose a track of your own, and likewise for special moments.
Programme items get their music too: quiet during the meal, a microphone for speeches, fitting pieces for games, surprises and the cutting of the cake.
As soon as people start dancing, I take over completely, watch the guests and keep adjusting the set until the last song has faded.

New hits and classics from several decades belong together in my sets; we go through requested tracks calmly beforehand.
Setup takes about 40 minutes, the system needs roughly 2.5 by 1.5 metres, and I clear up myself after the party. About 2.5 m of width and 1.5 m of depth are enough, and under normal conditions (car close to the setup spot, no stairs or lifts) setup takes around 40 minutes.
You can add lighting, a photo station, live music and an audio guest book if you need them, and I take care of the coordination.

A photo of the spot, the position of the power socket and the number of guests are enough for me to start with. My system is compact, and for an open garden we will also talk through a rain plan.
Yes, if you tell me the songs in advance. I place them at a point you choose, and then mix on to tracks that the younger guests know too.
I bring two wireless microphones. For speeches I turn the music down, and for singing along I pick tracks that the whole room knows.
Give me one person who can be reached on site. I set up early, keep the music low until the birthday guest of honour arrives, and then play the track you have chosen.

You tell me the date, place and approximate number of guests, and we collect what suits you: albums from your youth, songs to sing along to, tracks that should never play. Whatever comes up spontaneously on the night, I pick up if it fits the mood.

Transparency
A whole evening of nothing but Schlager and Ballermann, hour after hour? A few big crowd-pleasers in between, when the mood calls for it, belong to a good birthday party for me. Building a whole evening on them alone isn't my thing, though. I'm just as little the right person for non-stop techno sets without any contact with the crowd, for rigid request lists that get worked through from top to bottom, or for festival formats with several stages. There are other DJs who can do exactly that and love it, nothing against them, it's simply not my speciality.
My craft is mixing live for guests who want an evening with a feel for the moment: clean transitions, the right track at the right time, instead of just pressing play. That's why I'd rather tell you beforehand what I don't do than have you disappointed on the night.
