Celebrating in Solingen
An inn in the Wupper valley, a brick hall in Wald or a living room in Ohligs: every room responds differently to bass and voices, so I tailor the set to it. Between a castle, a factory hall and a half-timbered inn, you can celebrate your birthday in Solingen. Here you can see five venues and what they offer you.
In Solingen you celebrate in inns in the valley, in former factory buildings or in your flat in the neighbourhood, and each of these rooms needs different speakers and a different level. Only once it's settled where the party will be do I choose speakers and tracks.
In an inn's dining room or an old building, a small system that doesn't overwhelm the room is enough for me. We discuss beforehand which socket I may use and where my console stands; my setup takes a good 40 minutes and is finished before the first guest arrives.
In the former factory building the venue lists birthday parties as an occasion and offers Hall 1 with 300 square metres for up to 250 guests and a lounge with a bar and stage; services are also available on a modular basis. Which room suits your group, the venue will tell you; afterwards I choose the equipment and the position.
The old Bergisch inn in a half-timbered house explicitly names birthdays and, for family celebrations, the Bergische Kaffeetafel. The rooms are meant for roughly 15 to 80 people, and a garden is included. For the sound, you ask me once the venue has confirmed, and I adapt the set to the room.
For celebrations after opening hours the castle rents out the Kemenate (up to approx. 60 people) and the Knights' Hall, and there is also the Ancestral Gallery as a reception or buffet room. What is free on your date, you find out there, and then I plan the set-up.
On the operator's website, events and crafts are listed side by side. Whether you can hold a private birthday there and how many guests fit in, you ask the operator; I adapt my equipment accordingly.
According to the venue, rooms and foyers can be rented for celebrations. The Kleine Konzertsaal with 220 square metres holds up to 200 guests at banquet tables. Whether a private birthday is possible there, you ask the venue; for such a tall room I plan the level and placement with you early.

Who I am
A birthday in Solingen should sound like you, and that's exactly how I put it together. I learned to DJ in the nightclub, and after over 1450 celebrations I know the dramaturgy of an evening. I cut classics and current hits into my own edits so that colleagues, neighbours and relatives from other cities dance together.
What you want to hear and what not, you enter in advance. In our preliminary chat you tell me how long the party should last and when dinner is served; the equipment is in place before the door opens for the first time.

With the booking you receive my mobile number, because a lot can be sorted out fastest over WhatsApp. About a week beforehand, we go through requested songs, no-gos and the schedule together.
I arrive before your guests, set up the equipment in about 40 minutes and do the sound check. If there are steps or a narrow entrance, we have worked out the route for the equipment beforehand.
Quiet lounge music plays as guests arrive, so that they start chatting. For you as the birthday guest of honour and for special moments, I pick out a fitting track each time.
The programme gets its own music: during the meal it stays quiet, there is the microphone for speeches, and for games, surprises and cake I choose suitable tracks.
As soon as people dance, I take over completely, watch the mood and adapt the set to your guests until the last song fades out.

For setup I need a good 40 minutes and about 2.5 by 1.5 metres of space, and after the party I pack up myself. About 2.5 m of width and 1.5 m of depth are enough, and under normal conditions (car close to the setup spot, no stairs or lifts) setup takes around 40 minutes.
Lighting, photo station, live music and audio guest book can be added, and I handle the coordination.

I start with tracks that almost everyone sways to, then build in the direction the room is pulling. Songs you do not want to hear, you enter in advance.
Yes, tell me the song and the timing. A wireless microphone is ready for the toast, and afterwards I fade in your song without any gap.
Fridays and Saturdays in late summer are in demand, so it's best to write to me as soon as the date is set. Send me the date, my calendar decides, and you'll hear from me by the next day at the latest.
My console and speakers need a roof and dry ground, and a gazebo of about 2.5 by 1.5 metres is enough. If there's no such spot, I'll plan the move indoors with you.

Transparency
Hours of nothing but Ballermann and schlager? A few hits of that kind can work well at a birthday party when the mood is right, which is why they have their place with me too. Building a whole evening on them is not my line, though. I'm also not your DJ for techno with no connection to the crowd, for a list ticked off title by title, or for festivals with several stages. There are colleagues who are really good at that and love it; nothing against them, it's simply not my territory.
What I do is live mixing for guests who want an evening with feeling: clean transitions, the right title at the right moment, more than letting a playlist run. That is why I tell you openly beforehand what doesn't suit me, so that you aren't disappointed on the night.
