For context: with 80 guests, most Bavarian weddings land between €17,500 and €34,000, often noticeably more around Munich. Almost every item below has a "do it yourself" option and a premium tier – and if none fits, just enter your own amount.

What a Bavarian wedding really costs
The nationwide average is around €16,800 – which says almost nothing about your own planning. Three things really decide it: how many guests come, which venue you choose, and how high your standards are for food, photos and music. That is why this calculator works with real items instead of a flat rate.
Within Bavaria, Munich is the big exception. If you celebrate in the city or in the Five Lakes region (Fünf-Seen-Land), you pay on average 20 to 35% more for venue, catering and flowers than in the countryside. A celebration in the Allgäu or Lower Bavaria often costs noticeably less for the same number of guests than a comparable one on Lake Starnberg. For 80 guests in Munich you should realistically budget €24,500 to €43,000 – most of which goes on venue and catering combined.
As a guide value in Bavaria, expect €140 to €290 per guest for food, drinks, cake, stationery and favours together. The guest list is therefore the item where you can move the most – ten guests fewer quickly saves €1,500 to €3,000, on food alone. Venue, photographer and music, by contrast, cost the same whether 60 or 120 people end up at the tables.
| Cost item | Realistic range |
|---|---|
| Venue (hire) | €2,150 – €12,850 |
| Catering (per guest) | €55 – €135 |
| Drinks (per guest) | €12 – €40 |
| Photographer | €1,650 – €4,850 |
| Videographer | €1,780 – €5,680 |
| DJ | €850 – €2,900 |
| Live band | €3,150 – €8,850 |
| Flowers & decor | €330 – €4,850 |
| Wedding dress | €380 – €2,900 |
| Wedding planning | €1,250 – €5,650 |
| Total (guide value) | €17,500 – €34,000 |
The most effective way to save is the calendar: if you hold the celebration on a weekday or in the quieter months outside summer, you can often get a discount of 15 to 25% on venue and suppliers. If you may bring your own drinks, you save corkage and mark-ups. And if you think carefully about a symbolic wedding ceremony instead of booking it automatically, you save between €320 and €2,100 compared with the registry office alone. You can also trim favours and cake without your guests noticing.
Two things you should rarely save on: the photographer, because you will still look back on the pictures in ten years while most other items are forgotten by the next morning – and the music, because it decides whether people are still dancing at midnight or half the guests have already gone home. A buffer of 8 to 15% for tips and extra orders belongs in every budget too.
What does a wedding with 50 guests cost in Bavaria?
With 50 guests, expect roughly €9,500 to €19,500. Fewer guests mainly means more room per head – you can go up a tier on photographer, music or venue without blowing the whole budget straight away.
Is a wedding in Munich really more expensive?
Clearly, yes. If you marry in or around Munich, you pay on average a fifth to a third more for venue, catering and flowers than in the rest of Bavaria. If you move out to the countryside, for example to Lower Bavaria, the Allgäu or Franconia, the budget for the same number of guests drops noticeably.
How much budget should I plan per guest?
Plan between €140 and €290 per head if you add up food, drinks, cake, stationery and favours. No other single factor shifts your overall budget as much as the guest list.
Do the prices in the calculator apply to all of Bavaria?
The tiers here are based on the Bavarian market, from a simple countryside celebration to a premium wedding in Munich. Because prices differ from place to place, this remains a guide value and not a fixed quote. If no tier fits an item, simply enter your own amount via the pencil icon.
