Celebrating in Erlangen
Whether vaulted cellar, garden courtyard or inn hall: every room sounds different, and what I know about such rooms feeds into your planning. Five venues are up for your birthday: a vaulted cellar, a courtyard in Büchenbach, a baroque hall, an inn with a chestnut garden and a country hotel in Kosbach.
For a birthday in Erlangen the choice runs from the vault to a courtyard in one of the districts. Because rooms and guests differ, I put every set together afresh, and my setup follows the room, not a standard plan.
How much space my equipment needs is quickly said: about 2.5 by 1.5 metres, enough for up to 150 guests, and setup is done after roughly 40 minutes. Where the power comes from and how I get the cases into the building, we clarify with the operator before your date.
The Hotel Bayerischer Hof explicitly lists birthdays among the occasions in the courtyard vault, which according to the operator has space for up to 180 people. Small, exclusive celebrations take place in the fireplace room. For both rooms we agree in advance how loud the evening may get.
The Nägelhof in Büchenbach names the milestone birthday and the family celebration as occasions and welcomes up to 100 guests according to the operator. The operator's page also mentions a courtyard garden. For a party of this size I choose a setup that does not drown out conversation.
The rental page of the E-Werk lists birthdays among the typical occasions in the Redoutensaal. According to the operator, the baroque hall has 405 square metres and 528 seats, plus a stage. In such a high room I place the speakers deliberately so that everything can be heard well at the back too.
According to its room overview, the Gasthof Güthlein has a restaurant with 90 seats, a parlour for 15 to 25 people and a beer garden under chestnut trees for up to 200 guests. The venue does not explicitly mention birthdays on the pages I checked. Where the music works best for you, we clarify with the venue.
The Landhotel Polster in Kosbach lists private celebrations for up to 80 people and books musicians for events on request. A birthday is not explicitly mentioned, but the small and big celebrations in life are. Whether and how my equipment fits there, we discuss with the venue.

After booking, you can reach me any time on my private mobile number via WhatsApp. About a week before the party we take time for requested songs, no-gos and all questions about the schedule.
Before the start I need about 40 minutes for setup and soundcheck. I have a quick word with you or the venue, and as soon as the guests arrive, the equipment works unobtrusively in the background.
Soft lounge music plays at the welcome, so you can chat comfortably. For the birthday guest of honor and other special moments, I provide a sound of their own.
During dinner the music stays understated and atmospheric. If speeches, games or surprises are coming up, I announce them on the microphone, and you even cut the cake to fitting music.
The goal is a full dance floor for young and old. To get there I start with the opening, watch the guests, adapt the set live and bring everyone together until the last song plays.

For setup I need about 40 minutes; I arrive early enough, check the sound in peace and later also dismantle everything on my own. About 2.5 m of width and 1.5 m of depth are enough, and under normal conditions (car close to the setup spot, no stairs or lifts) setup takes around 40 minutes.
You book uplights, photo station, live music or audio guest book only if you want to, and I take care of all the coordination.

Vaulted ceilings reflect sound, so I place the speakers just in front of the dance floor and keep the volume moderate. During the soundcheck I listen to the room before your guests arrive. If anything is too loud or too quiet for you, tell me and I will adjust.
Yes, then I stick to soul, lounge and acoustic pieces and keep the tempo low. You do not have to dance; I shape the sound as a backdrop for your conversations. If you want a round of movement later after all, I raise the beat at your signal.
Yes, I set up in every district and every neighbouring town; all that matters to me is the room. Give me the address, number of guests and floor, and I will plan my route and timing. My setup takes about 40 minutes.
In autumn and before Christmas my calendar fills up, so write to me as soon as you know the date and place. Right after your message you will hear from me whether there is still room in my calendar that day.
A birthday party with a DJ starts at around €900 incl. VAT. Duration, guest count and equipment determine what gets added. What is included is shown on the pricing page. Travel to Erlangen is charged fairly by distance; the quote states the cost up front.
No, not for a private birthday party. You invite your guests personally, the party is not public, and then no GEMA fees apply. For a public event with free entry or ticket sales it would be different – just let me know beforehand.

Transparency
A whole evening of nothing but Schlager and Ballermann, hour after hour? A few big crowd-pleasers in between, when the mood calls for it, belong to a good birthday party for me. Building a whole evening on them alone isn't my thing, though. I'm just as little the right person for non-stop techno sets without any contact with the crowd, for rigid request lists that get worked through from top to bottom, or for festival formats with several stages. There are other DJs who can do exactly that and love it, nothing against them, it's simply not my speciality.
My craft is mixing live for guests who want an evening with a feel for the moment: clean transitions, the right track at the right time, instead of just pressing play. That's why I'd rather tell you beforehand what I don't do than have you disappointed on the night.
